GNH Related Organizations
There are several GNH Organizations in Bhutan:
The Gross National Happiness Commission is the Government of Bhutan’s Planning Commission and is charged with ensuring that GNH is mainstreamed into government planning, policy making and implementation. It uses tools such as the ‘GNH Screening Tool’ for assessing the suitability of all new government policies. Membership of the Commission includes the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance and the Secretaries of all other departments. Its management and operation falls under the GNH Commission Secretary.
The Center for Bhutan Studies and GNH Research is an autonomous institution, undertaking research and development around the concept of GNH in Bhutan, creating academic publications and hosting relevant conferences and events etc. It is also responsible for undertaking and publishing the bi-annual GNH survey.
The GNH Centre is an independent Civil Society Organisation (CSO), effectively a local NGO. It is independent of the government and does not receive any public funding. Its purpose is to demonstrate GNH in action, delivering experiential learning and educational programmes designed to explore, demonstrate and encourage applied GNH in individual and community life.
