Areas of Transformative Learning

The three main areas of a transformative learning experience are:

  • Wisdom / Knowledge
  • Ethics / Code of conduct
  • Concentration / Contemplation

These three dimensions refer to the education of the head, hands and heart as established by the Swiss pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. The objective is to support the participants to gain deep insight leading to applied ethics, to rediscover the joy of creativity, to enrich their relationships through enhanced emotional intelligence and to co-create practical innovative actions that will be applied in their families, communities, jobs and in their daily lives.

Meditation, as a wisdom tradition passed down in unbroken lineage in Bhutan’s culture for more than a thousand years, is a unifying theme and activity in each programme.

Furthermore, activities particularly consonant with both the unique assets of the Centre site and with the overall GNH-inspired goals of the Centre include: meditation and contemplation; indigenous medicine; traditional Bhutanese sports; organic farm work, arts and crafts, creative artistic activities; nature observation and treks; recreation and relaxation.
